I'm in Superdrug

When it comes to beauty products I'm as knowledgeable as my neighbour's cat. I inherited a bag of colours a few years ago and I do smear them on my face sometimes but now that I am preparing to go to Big School and I have already bought a satchel, some pencils and a pair of jeans, I think new make-up might give me an extra boost.

So I go to Superdrug and join a five-year old picking up tubes, peering at them and am phased by the fact that there is an entire aisle devoted to things JUST FOR EYEBROWS!!

Only little girls are in the Superdrug make-up aisles, I suspect that grown-ups go to proper lipstick shops but last time I did that I was persuaded to let a lady in a white coat turn me into a smelly clown and I'm not doing that again.

Some little girls, are clustered around a slightly taller one, aged about ten, the others watch intently as she wrinkles her nose and pokes her finger into a tube of beige cream - I stand close, hoping to learn something - a six-year-old, with the seriousness of journalist on her first interview asks

well which foundation do you use?

  1. My early forays into "make-up" involved Leichner greasepaint and huge jars of cold cream. I'd be no help.

  2. My twin granddaughters (age 11) are just getting into eye shadow. I'll ask them for recommendations if you like.

  4. I was almost 60 years old when my best friend Alice told me that my lipstick color was BROWN. What?? What??? Not pink? Not coral? Not whorish crimson (as my grandfather would say)? I tried a $2.00 tube and sure enough it worked brilliantly. Now it's all I use make up wise. And only once a year. I'm growing my eyebrows out so once they are the size of privets I can make them on fleek. HAHAHAHHAHA I am so not ever going to be cool. xoxox

    1. I am very interested in eyebrow grooming Rebecca, I notice that the young people are colouring theirs in hard and I rather like it. I do it occasionally when I want to channel Frida, I shall also xhannel you and try chocolate lips next week xxxx

  5. I bet they taste delicious. Not the Frida brow but the chocolate lip. I have very pasty skin. Like a raw pie shell. How did Alice know brown? It's a mystery to me. I missed all the girly girl stuff growing up. Someday I will get my eyebrows properly groomed and the groomer may faint in horror. I hope! xo

  7. Meanwhile, THIS is good, so long as you use a compatible moisturiser :-)
Or Estée Lauder Double Wear Light, which I trowel on to fill in my crevices.

    1. How do you know what is compatible? What happens if I got a non-compatible would it go like split mayonnaise? xxo xx

    2. Well, yes... or you might end up like an oil slick :-(
If you have dry skin you'll be fine though.
