Sleazeball Cat

10th Feb
After the overfeeding incident the cats are more or less back in shape, Julie is hunting again but Kevin has decided to become a full time pimp. His coat is looking luxuriant and he has got ridiculously cocky, he will now jump up on the table to steal my food if I try to eat outside.

I put out some food for the cats now and again, they each have bowls placed as far apart as possible, Kevin hangs around waiting for me to feed him. Passing the woodshed this morning I heard a commotion in the pidgeon loft. I looked up and saw Julie having a fight with another, smaller, creature, I left them to it and went back a bit later to see Julie perched on some logs looking very grumpy - Kevin was guarding a dead mouse draped over the edge of his food bowl. I gave both cats some food and transferred the mouse to Julie’s bowl. Kevin hissed at his sister, scoffed both bowls of food, then picked the mouse up and replaced it, delicately, in his own bowl.

  1. Will your insects be safe from these moggies? I once saw a cat make short work of a wasp, eating it sting and all. It was most impressive.

  2. I bet they are both wishing and hoping you were going away again and they could be looked after by the lady that gave them endless food.

    Are the ants still hibernating?

  3. I've just been reading the cat's back catalogue as it were (via Blades Biological and the blood spatter kit). You have done well to make them feel so at home.

  4. Mr Bananas - I am a little concerned about the insects, luckily there do seem to be plenty for everyone.

Frenchie - The cats are constantly bitching about how they wished they lived with 'that nice lady' I've tried telling them she's a witch, but do they care?

Brother T - A little too much at home in Kevin's case.

  5. I was wondering if they were Julie and Kevin (as they would be pronounced in Basildon) or Julie (as in Delpy) and Kevin (as in Tiens! Que c'est chic!) - but I think this post probably answers that question.

  6. One of my cats got too cocky so I made him wear a red glitter collar. Didn't look so cool then...

  7. Autolycus - A French accent makes any name cool doesn't it? I'm afraid these cats are not chic

Scarlet - I'm afraid Kev would love a glitter collar... you're so much better at keeping the chaps in their place than I am *sighs*

  8. It is so typical of a man to prefer a takeaway to fending for himself. The hunter-gatherer skills are sadly lacking in Kevin. He is a thing most lazy.

  9. I just finished a long, hard drive through the icy dark. I settled down to decompress with a blog post or two and stopped here first to find Kevin the Pimp, animated, no less, and this little tale. It was like a tonic. Thanks for that. Our adolescent dog, a terrier mutt, caught a mouse in the kitchen this weekend. As I was writing this, just moments ago, I looked up and she had another one (dead, thankfully). I am re-christening her Maisy Mousebane.

  10. Madame DeFarge - The world has ben ever thus I fear ... Toms are notoriously worse at hunting than the females (as is the case with all cats).

KSV - terriers are great, lucky that yours is useful too. Glad I made you laugh, for all his naughtiness Kevin is a lot of fun.

  11. The food chain, eating, competing. It's the bottom line in every life story.

A show about bugs? Hope I get to view it!

  12. Best hunting cat I/we ever had was also the fattest one. And it was a female. Imagine a feline Hatty Jacques with Olympic sprinting ability and lightning-fast reflexes.

  13. Reya - you're right and I suspect that all the insect stories we tell will boil down to that same formula.

Gadjo - If young Julie also becomes Hattie-Jaquelike I still reckon she'll be a pitiless hunter.

  14. Excellent as always Lulu. You *are* productive; I was astonished at how much trawling there was to be done to get up to date. Cats, Strange Family, speeding, and stranger even than the Strange's, hair hovering hands.

  15. Hi there Ernest - lovely to see you (as ever) I expect the pace will slow soon.

Wow - can pass you atishoo

  16. I kinda like a cat who knows what's what, and Kevin's got it in spades. I wonder how Julie puts up with him, though.

  17. BB - I'm worried that they're becomming my child substitutes

Katrocket - I am enjoying Kev's ballsy sauciness, I keep telling Julie to bow his ears - will she listen?
