TV Gold

14th May
We decided to stop early last night and set off for an aperitif at the bar. On the way we were distracted by some fresh roadkill. Someone ran for a camera to film establishing shots. The dead badger is now lying in the orchard next to the house, a stills camera set up to record the inevitable invasion from the insect community.

  1. I lived somewhere once where all the rabbits were dying of myxomotosis... within seconds of a bunny dying the crows would have its eyes out... within minutes, the foxes came for dinner....

  2. Erk. The only time I've seen a badger is dead by the side of the road.It always really saddens me.They're such beautiful creatures.

Man I'm looking forward to this film though. When will it come out Lulu?

  3. I think in the end all you did was badger the poor thing...

Sorry, it's late, all I've got is puns!

  4. Scarlet - myxomotosis was a horrible thing. I'm surprised the foxes haven't been at our badger yet.

JoeyJ - I see them often at night around here, they have a very peculiar gait.

Nice to meet you Miles, bring your puns round here any time.

  5. I suppose insectologists (forget the fancy word) have to think like that - where there is roadkill there is an insect gourmet meal waiting to happen

  7. I never thought of roadkill as TV Gold before. I will Comcast and ask about the Roadkill Channel.

  8. Did you ever see the Peter Greenaway film 'A Zed & Two Noughts'?
    All about decay like this.

  9. Your dedication is admirable. If slightly gross. Glad it wasn't a hedgehog. I am sentimental about such creatures.

  10. xl - Soon there will be more maggots going on here than you could shake a stick at!

Ms Fancy - There is always an upside!

BB - er - it was a badger, not damaged at all (apart from being dead) and it won't get horrid for a few days yet!

Wow, - It may be that the Roadkill Channel is currently only available in Europe, closely related to Car Crash telly though.

KAZ - Yes I did see 'A Zed & Two Noughts'? Id forgotten about that one.

  11. Madame Defarge - I do get sad to see dead stuff on the road, but there is an 'on-the-job-override' that kicks in

  13. Maybe humanity can be classified by how they react to roadkill: 1) swerve round it, 2) see if it's still alive and try to feed it milk, 3) drive backwards and forwards over it a few more times before moving on, 4) what you do, use it as food for others, perhaps the kindest act of all.

  15. Roshni - lying in the road to film is a very precarious occupation.

Gadj - people's attitude's to life and death is often very contradictory isn't it?
